Move some furniture if required and get down on the floor on your back with the knees raised off the floor just a little. The neck should be held with your hands but not pulled on. Yoga female to male ratio?

I started yoga recently with an experienced friend, when she took me to the center I was surprised that the female to ratio was so large. So far I've taken 5 classes and every class there were 1 or 2 other men besides myself and 20-25 women. Not that I was complaining:) Now I was expecting there to be more women then men say at a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio but I really wasn't expecting a 10:1 ratio.

When I go to the gym there might be a few more men then women but it's usually pretty close in numbers. Is this common for yoga and why is there such a huge difference? Considered not macho or something?

After doing yoga I see that a lot of the muscles you would use for push ups, pull ups, abdominal exercises and leg exercises are needed to be at a certain strength in order to do some of the poses. Well at least in the classes I've taken so I think going to the gym before doing yoga is easier.

It's the same in my experience also. 10:1 or 5:1 occasionally.
Anything closer to equal than that is a rarity.

My theory is not much of the "exterior" of Hatha yoga is impressive to most men.

The parts that might be noteworthy to men, are written off as bizarre stretching, which aside from the worn-out joke referencing sex, is seen as having no practical value (other words, being able to "contort" yourself is not going to help you be a better hunter or sportsman or earn the respect of other men).

And any spiritual benefit that Hatha yoga may promote is also low on most men's list of values.
