Looking for a free workout routine? Well, you've certainly come to the right place. As a certified personal trainer with over a decade of industry experience, I've created hundreds - if not thousands - of workout routines that deliver results.

This particular workout routine is designed for beginners who want to both tone up and shed some of that unwanted fat. Who doesn't want to do that, right? So, without further ado - here it is.

Note: This workout is to be performed 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and it should be noted that you should always check with your physician prior to starting any exercise program.

Free Workout Routine - Cardio Portion

Start off with a light 5 minute warm up (walking will do) and then increase the intensity as you see fit. Work within your own limits. If you feel comfortable going at a slow pace, then by all means, take your time. If you want to push yourself a little bit, go ahead.

An easy way to monitor your intensity is called a "talk test". Basically, you don't want to exceed a pace that will impair your ability to carry on a conversation.

Try to do about 20 minutes of cardio - not counting the warm up.

Free Workout Routine - Strength Portion

Exercise 1 = Upright Leg Press Machine

You always want to start with the harder exercises for the larger muscle groups. If your gym doesn't have the upright leg press machine, you can use the regular 45 degree leg press providing that your blood pressure is within a healthy range.

- Perform 3 sets of 12-15 repetitions

- Rest 60-90 seconds between sets

Exercise 2 = Upright Chest Press Machine

This is a great exercise that works your chest, shoulders and triceps (back of your arm). Make sure you exhale (breath out) on exertion as you would normally do with any other exercise. For some reason, my clients would forget to breath (if you can believe that) when they would perform this exercise.

- Perform 3 sets of 12-15 repetitions

- Rest 60 seconds between sets

Exercise 3 = Seated Rows

This exercise is great for both your upper back and your biceps (front of your arm). Remember to exhale (breath out) as you're pulling the handles towards you not when you're pushing the handles away like you do when performing the chest press (mentioned above).

- Perform 3 sets of 12-15 repetitions

- Rest 60 seconds between sets

For Exercises 4 and 5 - if you still have the energy - do some crunches and some lower back extensions (3 sets of each). Follow the same guidelines as the last 2 exercises above (3 sets, 1 minute rest) and do as many repetitions as you can.

exercise beginner??

i probably sound really dumb for asking, but how many are a set, and how many sets are in a rep? im really confused on that. im not exactly the queen of exercise. :)

A rep is 1 repetition. How many reps in a set is up to you. When someone says they did 3 sets of 10. It means they did 10 reps at 3 different times. 3 x 10, 4x8 or 5x6 are common sets x reps to be used.
Most people trying to bulk up will use a high weight for lower reps.
On the flip side, for losing weight and toning, a high rep with a lower weight is better.
