Mistakes People Make When Starting An Over 40 Fitness Routine
Almost every person who maintains their health and fitness over 40, has a fitness routine they use consistently and has a sensible eating plan. However, if you don't take into account the changes that happen to your body as you move past the age of 40, you may find yourself frustrated with your lack of results. In this article, I will discuss with you the most common mistakes people make when starting their fitness program.
1. They don't workout intensely enough.
Once you reach the grand old age of 30 your muscles and bone density begans to shrink. Your muscle and bone density will have reached peak maturity at around the age of 25 years, from this point on 'if you don't use it, you'll lose it'. The more intensely you perform your exercise routines, the harder your muscles have to work, including your heart, the less muscle and bone shrinkage you will have as you grow older.
2. They try to eat the same as they did when they were in their late teens and early twenties.
Unfortunately, your metabolism or the rate you burn calories at rest, is closely tied in with your muscle and bone density. The less toned up and weaker your muscles are the less calories you will burn while going about your daily activities or at rest. This is because muscle is an active tissue and will burn calories even when not being actively used.
Now this doesn't necessarily mean you have to rush out and grab the latest Hollywood diet plan, but it does mean you will have to eat less high calorie 'junk food' than you could eat when you were younger.
3. They either struggle to find the time to perform their fitness routine or spend too long on exercise routines.
The usual advice you come across is that you need 3 to 5 sessions per week in order to achieve a good level of cardiorespiratory or "heart" fitness. However, studies have shown that you can recieve significant benefits from as little as 2 sessions per week.
The latest studies into fitness exercises and how they affect your level of fitness indicate that that short and more intense bouts of exercise are more beneficial than spending hours mindlessly running on a treadmill.
If you take into account the way your body changes as you go past the age of 40, and tailor your fitness over 40 plan accordingly you should achieve the results you're looking for.

Do You Work Fitness Into Your Day? How?
Aside from gym time, anyone else work extra fitness in throughout the day? Like parking as far as possible from the entrance and sprinting to the door?
One thing I've been doing lately is exercising at work. I work in retail and I work alone, so after I deal with a customer or customers, I go to the back room and do push-ups and steam engines (an upright ab workout). I do a set amount per customer, so if I have to deal with three customers in a row before I get to go to the back room, I do 3 sets of the routine. I started doing it for package delivery, returns, and "quick questions," too, so it's not like, "Oh, well, he wasn't a 'customer' because he didn't buy anything, so that doesn't count."
What do you do?
I love to dance, so I dance during the day. It is fun to do laundry, get ready, clean, watch baby while dancing.
