Weight Issues HELP!!!!!!!?
ok i am 5'8 and weigh 185 lbs. and i am trying to cut down on eating and go outside everynight but its hard to lose weight when my parents buy junkfood.......dont say in your comments to talk to them i already have and they didnt buy anything healthier and if i say i want something else or dont eat i will be grounded i just wanna lose about 30 pounds by school starts up again in august....that would bring me down to about 160 which is a normal weight for my height or even go lower to about 150
Loosing weight can be hard, and it is important to do it in a healthy manner. I am sorry that your parents are not more supportive.
About the grounding part, will they ground you for not eating your dessert? You could cut this out completely? It is important to eat so you don't want to skip meals. How big are the portions? If they are large, maybe you could only eat part (about half depending on size) and tell them you are full. IF they don't accept that, then ask if you can put the rest in the fridge for later and you will eat it the next time you are hungry.
Also maybe you could serve yourself and get less, and/or pack your own lunch for school. Surely your house has stuff to make a healthy sandwich and take fruit or veggies to school.
Do you get an allowance or have a job? If not could you volunteer to do extra chores for money? Could you get a summer job, say babysitting walking dogs, or mowing yards? If you have any source of income, you could use your money to buy things that you want to eat. Healthy food is expensive, so that might be part of the reason (giving you parents the benefit of the doubt) that they don't buy more.
Eating is only one component of loosing weight. Exercise is another. How active are you/can you be? If you are not, could you start exercising/being active several times a week? You could ride your bike, walk, swim, volunteer to mow the yard (if you have one to mow, I do not). Swimming is wonderful exercise. If you cannot get outside doing house work (such as vacuuming and scrubbing floors) is exercise. You can do step aerobics using your stairs if you have stairs. Also if you are watching T.V. during the commercial breaks (or while you watch) you can get off the couch and walk or run in place. Most hour long shows have about 15 min of commercials so you can sneak some good exercise in.
Another idea is to get your parents to take you to the doctor or talk to your school nurse, let him or her tell you (and your parents) what your healthy weight should be, what types of food you should be getting, and in what quantities. If it comes from a doctor or nurse instead just from you, that might help. If you can not get to a doctor, do you have a pastor or other adult friend you can talk to? If so talk to them, they may have some suggestions. They also may be able to talk to your parents with you.
I just had one more idea, maybe you could cook a healthy dinner, that you know your parents would like (homemade taco salad, or chicken or something) as a special treat to show them how important they are to you, and at the same time they can see how good it can taste and feel to eat healthily. Maybe this summer you could cook some, and have some healthy meals that way.
If you do some of these things (like eat the best you can, and stay really active) your parents may begin to see how important this is to you and they my come around. I hope you don't have to be grounded too many times in order to get healthy.
