Question about protein shake and gaining weight?
I lift weights every other day and in between I run or do other exercises. After each workout I take a whey protein shake. But I wanted to know if I were to take it before and after how much would that help in gaining muscle and weight. I am looking to gain more weight because I currently weigh 145 and am 6' tall.

Your body can only process 20 g. of protein in any two hour period. So if you have that big burger for lunch and workout two hours later, your protein shake should be small. If you have a lite early dinner, then the shake after should be the 15 to 20 g dose. You will pee the excess right out. Making big shakes is the same as throwing $$$ in the urinal. Take it after your workout. That is when you muscles are thirsty.
Here is a trick I learned to spot the gains. Find a pair of short legged shorts and take your picture from front and back. Then wait 3-4 months, and take the pictures in the same shorts and the same place again. Us trim guys will make our gains slowly, and the pictures will clearly show them.
How to put on weight?
I am going on 30 in a month and im 5'0 weighing 108 and petite. I have two kids and only gained the weight I was suppose to when pregnant with them in 1998 and 2003 (not sure if things have changed since then). My metabolism is high. I eat a lot and eat and or snack throughout the day and late at night. I don't really want to have to count my calories because I don't have time to do so. Are there simple things like protein bars or shakes I can buy and go from there, or would I have to eat as if im on a diet? I pretty much just want a better figure with hips and thighs and a little more butt would be nice too =)

j/k. It took her all of a couple weeks to get her tiny little figure back after both her kids. *sighs* So, anyways... I'll just tell you what my normal "diet" (haha) is & that should help cuz I have a good 20lbs I could stand to get rid of...
First off... BEER! Alcohol (and not lite either, obviously) makes people crave munchies & I'm pretty sure I heard that it slows down your metabolism a little bit, not for sure on that though.
Next: Do not snack on healthy things like carrot sticks or a tiny $0.99 bag of chips (like my friend) and call that a snack. You hafta start turning snacks into more of a partial meal, almost. Make fries, and I mean about a plate (since you're a foot shorter then me, you would hafta use a smaller plate) but make enough that it will just about make you full.
Next: try not to eat "balanced" meals. Like meat, veggie, & bread for dinner. Eat all of one group (breads & veggies high in sugar are your best bet).
Lets see, what else... Avoid breakfast, instead try and graze through the morning.
You said you eat late at night... even though it's late, if you get up after eating and, i dunno, do the dishes or laundry, you're gonna get that food burning off right away. Try and eat late & do as little moving around as possible... go right to bed or lay down & watch tv/read, whatever... Pretend you're a sloth! lol
Okay, I think that's about all the advice I have... and after re-reading all that - I've come to a decission... I'm going on a diet!!!
