i exercise on the elliptical or treadmill for 40 minutes but only 2 days/week..its very cold here can't walk outside exept in summer.Is that enough? Your answer is very helpful.
Ok, so I don't know about you , but around here organic is very expensive.
Here is my thought on the suject. For an average adult your height, weight and age, you are well within the correct range. Medium build women in your age group can be within 115-129 and still he healthy.
You should be eating somewhere in the area of about 1800 calories a day to maintain your current weight. Drop that to 1600 to lose weight. But also keep in mind that even though we lose calories we still need to increase exercise to at least 30-60 minutes of active exercise a day. This can be walking the dog, jogging, and it does not all have to be at the same time, you can spread it out throughout the day.
I do agree with the comment about breakfast. Make sure you eat one. Also, try to make sure tht you are eating enough of the main food groups and not convenience microwave food. The fresher te better.
Watch sodium content in fruits and veggies. Depending n=on what you can afford, always try to choose fresh first is they are in season, then frozen. Canned should be used last on the list. I know its sometimes the cheapest, but holds the most sodium and the least amounts of nutrients. If you are going to be using canned foods, consider rinsing them off in a strainer, it will wash off some of the salt in the veggies and some of the excess sugar on the fruits.
About the calcium concern, as long as you don't have any lactose problems, you should be getting 3 servings of dairy a day. Dairy such as cheeses, , yogurts, lowfat or fat free milk are all high in calcium. Dairy such as milk and cheese is also a good source or protein.
For other Protein sources, choose the lower fat cuts of meat, and chicken without the skin. Have baked fish, which has a rainbow of nutrients in it. Eggs are a good source of protein, but watch how many you eat. American Heart Association says no more than one a day to be safe, heartwise.
