There are a variety of effective abdominal exercises that you can try out to find which one is best for you. Or, for maximum results, you can combine a few different abdominal exercises or alternate between your favorites.

Probably the simplest, and most popular, abdominal exercise is the crunch. Lying on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat will get your crunch started. Some people like to place their fingertips to the sides of the head, just behind the ears, while others like to do crunches with their arms crossed over their chest. Either way, the next step is to push your lower back to the floor and hold that while you crunch your abdominal muscles to lift your shoulders a few inches off the floor.

To mix things up a bit, you could add an exercise ball to your crunch. You will want to sit on the exercise ball with your feet flat on the floor. Slowly let the ball roll as you lie back until your thighs and torso are parallel with the floor. Then you will contract your abs, raising your torso no more than 45 degrees. The exercise ball is a lot of fun and can really help keep you from getting too bored with your usual abdominal exercises.

Whichever abdominal exercises you determine to be the best route to six pack city, don't overdo it and end up having to postpone your trip. You should always check with your doctor before beginning a new exercise program and of course you can't forget to stretch.

Safe low impact abdominal exercises?

Hi! I have lower back problems so I don't want to do anything too strenuous, but I would like some exercises that can be done on a floor mat that won't cause problems for my lower back, but could help shrink my abdominal area. I've had two abdominal surgeries (hysterectomy and ovarectomy) and I now have a huge pouch hanging above the abdominal incision.

What are some safe abdominal exercises I could do?

I have had back problems my self so I know what you mean. Lay on your back with your arms stretch above your head. Lift your right leg up in the air and in the same motion lift your left arm torward your right leg. this will sqeeze your lower and middle abs without straining your back at all. It may not seem like it does not so much but with a bad back you do not want to over strain.

Body fat is stored in cells. You can't target reduce fat. You need to adjust your diet so your consuming less storable calories (carbs), and move more doing cardio intensive workouts to empty your existing fat cells. Exercise tones muscles only.
