like bars, pudding, shakes. im in a weight loss program and they told me i have to take their stupid supplements alsong with eating healthy and taking dietary pills to lose 5-7 pounds a week. but people say that protein bars make you gain muscle, not lose weight. so why would they make you eat them for weight loss? now im confused
Everyone needs a certain amount of protein to be healthy. Protein is what builds muscle but it is also very helpful for losing fat as well. Here's why....
Foods containing protein tend to be more satisfying and have less calories than foods that contain carbohydrates and fats. Say for example an 8 oz chicken breast has 220 calories. 1/2 cup of rice (a carbohydrate) contains 340 calories. The 8 oz chicken breast will obviously make you fuller and it contains less calories so its a win win situation.
Muscle mass is more metabolic (meaning burns more calories) than fat is. So the more mass muscle your body has the more calories your body will burn which means the more food you can eat and lose fat. So by eating more protein and building more muscle mass, you can lose fat easier because it raises your metabolism.
