Extreme back pain, rowers please help!?
My back has always been bad, after rowing especially, but lately the pain has been intolerable. Its like an excruciating ache all around my lower back, the pain even shoots down my legs. When i row full pressure i feel a sharpe 'ping' and words cannot describe the pain i feel. Can someone find a solution or at least tell me what it is. And DON'T tell me to see a chiropractor because they will tell me to quit and that is not an option.
aah omg i had the same problem. i went to see just the regular doctor and it turns out I had a pinched siatic nerve. the biggest symptom of this is pain that starts at your lower back and runs down your legs. Unfortunatly, the doctor prescribed that I stop rowing for about two weeks. However, after this resting time I felt fine. Since it's just the fall rowing season, I would go see the doctor and take a break now. This way, you won't interrupt your most important rowing season-the spring. If you really don't want to see a doctor, I would suggest trying to stretch and apply heat to your lower back at night and in the morning. Also, try long easy rows on an erg to stretch out your back.
