Anyone familiar with or have used the Toshiba TG01 touchscreen monolith smartphone released last June won't be surprised at its new successor announced at the recently concluded 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.  And anyone who sees the branding – Toshiba TG02, will immediately conclude this is the rightful heir alright. Body styling remains almost ergonomically unchanged so that people will find the two nearly indistinguishable from a distance.

On closer hands-on, the TG02 is a bit smaller, 10 grams lighter and sports a capacitive instead of a resistive touchscreen. It's also water splash resistant so you can use it with wet hands in the shower or rain without any fear it will die on you.

Other than that, you get the same lavish 4.1-inch display, the same 3-megapixel camera, runs on the same Widows Mobile 6.5 and powered by the same 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon.

Nothing much of a major upgrade, in fact, we wonder why Toshiba would follow up the TG01 so soon with so few improvements that we are likely to caution TG01 owners not to upgrade to this one at all.  While it opens up an upgrade path to the new Windows Phone 7 Series, it's not as if the older TG01 can't do that as well.

If anything, the slightly smaller palm print and more pocket-friendly weight should make this a good enough value for people starting out a Toshiba instead of any Android smartphones elsewhere.

Talking about the TG02 specs is like talking about the TG01 based on its preliminary specs from the MWC with just a couple of alterations as indicated above.

• The TG02 is a 3G phone on the dual band UMTS/HSDDPA/HSUPA and a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G.  You get WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP and USB2.0 for high speed local data transfers.  It has SatNav functionality with Assisted GPS and QuickGPS.
• It accommodates one of the largest phone displays a 4.1-inch WideVGA capacitive touchscreen 65k colors.  It comes with a gravity accelerometer for auto-rotate viewing as well as shake control.
• Imaging is mediocre with a basic 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera with VGA recording at 30fps frame rate, but you get a secondary front-facing VGA camera for 3G video calls that can also do video recording but at QVGA resolution. Multimedia is pretty much standard with the media players for popular audio and video file formats.  There's no FM stereo radio, no 3.5mm headphone jack, just a proprietary one, but you get Bluetooth with A2DP for wireless stereo listening.
• On the software front, the TG02 uses the same Windows Mobile 6.5 with an improved 3D user interface and takes a nod to the social networking enthusiasts with Facebook as well as YouTube apps for video file sharing.  There's also a document viewer for PDF and MS Office files and the usual WAP 2.0 HTML web browse and email client support.
• Internal memory comes with 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM when gets microSD expandability for up to 16 GB.   Phonebook gets practically unlimited entries and fields and are Photocall enabled.

The Toshiba TG02 uses a slim 1000 mAh Li-Ion battery that can get squeezed for up to 5 hours of talk time and 275 hours in standby mode on a single full charge.

Shake Weight App Questions

I am 5' 9" and weigh 162 lbs. Should I worry more about building more muscle or losing weight?

I currently do the Men's Health "Better ______" workouts they have listed on their app on my iPhone. I use the "Shred Fat, Pack on Muscle: Upper Body" and the same workout for Lower Body plus the NCAA Abs Workout after these workouts 2-3 times a week. In between I run on the treadmill for about 40 min on the days in between.

-My concern is is that although my muscles are somewhat defined.. I want to lose more belly fat and thigh fat but I am scared I am going to lose muscle and look like a twig. At the same time, I want to build muscle without adding the extra bulk and fat and I'm confused on how to workout.

-I currently take Wheybolic Extreme 60 protein shakes before I go to sleep and take GNC's "Amplified Creatine" and Mega Men Sport vitamins from GNC.
