Can You Substitute Medifast Food For A Few Of Your Daily Meals And Still Lose Weight?

I recently heard from someone who was interested in the Medifast diet but who didn't know if she wanted to commit to the diet full time. She told me, in part: "I'm pretty sure that I could substitute a shake or two for my meals throughout the day, but I don't want to deprive myself of real food on a daily basis. Would I still lose weight this way?"

I know a good deal of folks who are on a sort of part time Medifast plan of their own design. But, I have to stress that you do prepare your own "real food" once a day on this diet. it's ">It's not as if you're eating the diet's meals for every single meal. Once per day, you make a larger "lean and green meal" on your own. This is where you get to be creative and come up with your own meals with fresh and "real" ingredients. Of course, you can't just eat what you want with wild abandon or you might lose the gains that you've already made for the day. But, as long as you come up with a meal that includes lean protein with vegetables and follow the guidelines you're given, you have quite a bit of leeway.

Understanding That Medifast Isn't All About A Calorie Deficit, It's About Ketosis Also: Sometimes, I find that people assume that you lose weight on Medifast because you take in less calories. And, this is definitely part of it. By and large, you take in around 1,000 calories each day on this diet. This alone would create a calorie deficit that causes weight loss. But Medifast is also effective because it limits your carbs and sugars while bumping up your protein and fiber. This puts your body in a metabolic state called ketosis. And this typically brings about more dramatic and faster weight loss.

That's not to say that any reduction in calories isn't going to help you lose weight. It can. But it can happen in a slower manner and be less dramatic then if you just followed the program for five of your meals and incorporated your lean and green meal.

Finally, people sometimes tell me that it's their intention to replace a few of their daily meals with the diet's shakes and bars. This is possible since they definitely sell their products individually, but you should also know that shakes and bars aren't your only options. There's also eggs, soups, chili, pancakes, ice cream, brownies, chips, cappuccino, oatmeal, and fruit drinks. You may well have more flexibility and options than you think.

So while replacing some of your meals with the diet's meals would most definitely save you some calories and result in weight loss, I doubt that your results would be as dramatic as if you followed the traditional program (where you could still eat "real" food) and were able to get into ketosis also.

my dog is vomiting yellow, with little blood. Hasn't eaten in 2 days. Lost weight, shaking and a small caugh.

He started out 2 days ago vomiting only 1 time. It was clear with very small amount of something like milk. Didn't eat that day. Next day he vomited, this time it was yellow with streaks of blood in it. He has been lightly caughing with a gag at the next of his caughing spell. He has been losing a lot of weight the past month. He has been shaking like he is scared to death, but nothing to be scared of. I smelled his mouth and it smells so bad it almost made me vomit. Took him to the doctor, the doc said his is fine, did blood workup and x-rays. 500 dollars later, doc said he is fine. YEAH RIGHT. I think he is dying a painful death. I believe he has cancer or something fatal, I HOPE NOT. I forgot to say he has very little energy. He is 13 years old and is a lab mix. Great dog, but he is real sick.

If anyone can help, I really appreciate! We want to keep him for as long as we can, but we don't want him to suffer.

FIRST GET A NEW VET> the yellow is bile with blood from the acid eating the lining of the stomach..The bad smell in his mouth may be due to this but the first thing I think of is intestinal impaction or even something caught in the throat . Could also be teeth at his age and that is really something simple in itself. My best advice is give him a table spoon of Karo syrup to give some instant calories..make sure that he is not dehydrated....Pinch (lightly)the scruff of his neck and pull up....if the skin retracts slowly then he is dehydrated and that's not good. Immediately try getting him to drink, by whatever means bowl, straw. If it snaps right back then that is something in your favor. .then get him to new vet..Tell your new vet what the other has done to see if he will help get you $$ back for the "so called vet"..... If that vet does not help get a lawyer...There is something wrong with your dog...Some vets only vet for the money!

protein shakes??????????

im just a teen age girl and im real skinny, i eat soooo much yet i never gain weight. i eat meats, junk, vegie, fruit, everything! and i just wanted to know if there was some protein shake i could make that doesn't envolve going out and buying that "bulk up power" stuff. or do you know anything that would just help me gain some weight or muscle? i don't mean fat, i just mean get some meat on my bones (i eat meat to! lol) please help!

Protein drinks IN ADDITION to your regular "diet" will help you consume more calories. Don't substitute them for real meals though. Exercise and weight training will give you muscle and "meat" on your bones. Good luck =)
