As many of you may know by now there are many different weight loss shake powders or "meal replacements" on the market. Like many of you I have tried numerous diets and had mixed to bad experiences with many of them.

However I looked into weight loss shakes and discovered that not all weight loss shakes are created equally.

Certain brands that you may find in a store maybe cheap however the problem is many of them taste very bad and furthermore there's no proper instructions on how to make the shake. I had a bad experience with a certain brand where I put one bag of powder in a large glass of water. Generally I found these cheap brands had bad quality and I went off them within a week.

At first this had soured my opinion of weight loss shakes and originally I thought they were completely not a good idea for losing weight however one day I stumbled upon a shake that impressed me because of the range of flavors and options you could mix it with and was immediately impressed.

Through the shake I lost around 14 Kg's or 30 pounds in 3 months.

Why Shakes and Meal replacements are great for weight loss?

In order to understand the idea of shakes we should understand the average modern human. Statistics show that we are less active and getting fatter and eating poorly. As we continue down these unhealthy trends we tend to skip meals, eat fast food and binge eat.

If so, how did it work for you? I have been thinking about it because I can't take supplements anymore and I need to really get some xtra poundage off. Hi there :) I've done Medifast so thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. It is a strict plan and in my honest opinion. hard to stay with for the long haul, but if you can put your mind to it, it works wonderfully! I started back in January, and am currently in the "struggling" stage. I have good days and bad days, but I firmly believe this is a healthy way to learn how to eat better, and to maintain better health for the long term. For most of us, it just comes down to the food...some people are able to start the plan and stick to it like glue until they're done, but for most of us the road is a bit longer, filled with lots of ups and downs. If only they would just quit making doughnuts...(sigh). :) How much you can expect to lose depends generally on how much you have to lose overall. The more weight you need to lose, the quicker it comes off. I lost 5 lbs. my first week, and averaged 2-3 lbs. per week after that (I overall wanted to lose 83 lbs.). As you go down in weight, it will start to slow down, but on weeks where the scale doesn't show much progress you may find you're still continuing to lose inches.

I am 38 and have high blood pressure. Within 5 weeks of starting the plan, I was able to quit taking my blood pressure medicine and cannot even tell you how much better I physically felt. A few things that are important to remember while on this plan is that due to being in a mild state of ketosis (fat burning stage), you MUST keep your carbs under a certain amount each day (100 grams). If you go over this amount, you will feel awful, and essentially will have to start all over again. Those first three days of detoxing your body off of all the food it doesn't need are not a lot fun, and even less fun to go through more than once. A lot of people report headaches, some nausea, general feelings of sickness for those first three days. I was quite tired, but that was the worst of it for me.

The Medifast website is an awesome resource for getting to know other folks who are also on plan. You can also find a lot of great recipes here, track what you're eating everyday, etc. You are not required to actually purchase Medifast in order to access this site. If you're seriously considering the plan, I'd join the site and take a look around and meet some of the people currently on the plan. There are a lot of great guys and gals here, loaded with friendly advice. Take Shape For Life, which is a division of Medifast, can also provide you with a free health coach, which is someone who will keep in touch with you on your journey to help guide you along and provide encouragement. This person will generally get you started and remain in contact with you daily for the first three days, then weekly after that, although they are always available at any time should you need to talk, have a question, desire a pep talk, etc. My Doctor recommended Medifast to me, and I joined through Take Shape For Life, with a health coach, who, bless her heart, still has faith in me after all these months.

HELP!! need advice on weight loss?

i am unhappy with my body at the moment, im 175cm tall and weigh 85kgs, i recently lost 9 kgs and then gained it all back on, it was one of those shake diets. i am running out of options, i have tried duromine, it worked and really messed with my head and reductil makes me feel weird... i have just bought a months supply of xenical and i am trying that as well as laxitives. im so disgusted by my body and the way i have not kept the weight off. i have started taking multivitamins and they are making me feel better, i just control my appetite and i need more energy to exercise.. has anyone has any advice for me please, i have no other options.... thanks

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!
