When people start implementing a healthy diet plan they are in high spirit, filled with high hopes and expectations. And soon most of these people will go back to their old ways -- eating junk food, stop exercising, gaining more weight and feeling miserable and frustrated. Why?
Are weight loss programmes effective or just scams to rip off people their money? Yes, there are some programs which are scams but most of the available programs do work. Then if most of these programs are effective why so many people are struggling to lose weight? Why some people lose weight but fail to maintain it and end up gaining more weight? Why some people lose weight and are able to maintain it throughout their lifetime. In this article I will be addressing these questions and maybe provide the missing link. Why people gain weight?
Many reasons or excuses are cited for gaining unwanted weight. Here are some of the reasons:
- It is a family thing- everyone in the family is fat that is why no matter how hard I try to lose weight it won’t work.

Whatever the reason for having gain weight, you can reach your ideal weight if you set a goal to do so. You can develop new habits which will lead you to your ideal weight. Changing your belief system and your attitude will be your starting point if you want to achieve this goal. You can have a great weight loss program but if deep down you don’t believe (consciously or unconsciously) that you can have your ideal body and maintain it, you will tend to sabotage yourself. Disregard any physical evidence, say the affirmations as if you have already achieved your goal. These are some of the affirmations you can use: “I have reached my ideal body weight”, “Every minute of everyday I am loosing weight”, “My body has the right weight and shape” etc. For faster results you must repeat your positive affirmations several times per day. Write them down or record them.
Use Visualisation
Another method that you can use is visualisation. Imagine yourself already having achieved your ideal weight. Feel what it is like seeing yourself in your ideal body shape. Imagine the feeling of achieving this goal before it even happens in the physical world. It will then feel naturally to take the right action. You will make the right eating choices without struggle. This method produces results quicker than affirmations.
Focus On What You Want Not On What You Don’t Want
Whatever mental power method you prefer to use (affirmations, visualisation… or combination of all the mental power methods) you must focus on what you want not on what you don’t want. Thoughts create your physical reality. You are what you think therefore you must be careful on what you focus your thoughts on. The universe or your subconscious mind (whatever name you prefer to call it) will bring to you whatever you focus on. Don’t say, “I am fat and I want not to be fat, so I’ll beat this fatness-I’ll take this action and I’ll defeat this fatness”, you are , from your position of guardedness and defensiveness and negative emotion, holding on to that fatness. You are focusing on the lack side of the equation rather than on the truly desired side of the equation. From your place of lack, you will attract only more of that, and that is the reason most diets do not work. Your body is absolutely a pure reflection of the way you think. You must endeavour to think only of what you desire (in this case your ideal body weight). Everyday spend sometime thinking or imagining your body, your environment, your relationships and your life in ways that please you.
If you can combine your weight loss program with one or all of the above mentioned mental power methods, you will begin to develop new eating habits and you will be on your way to your ideal body weight and shape.

You could probably aim for 155 to 170 pounds. It may seem like a lot but for a woman who is six feet tall you definitely have a large frame no doubt about it. I think you're still at a healthy weight all the way up to 180 pounds too. Just as long as you're eating healthy and exercising though you should be fine and don't really worry about the weight.
